Re-elect Cliff Jenkins, City Councillor, Ward 25, City of Toronto   2010 Candidate for
Toronto City Councillor
Ward 25 Don Valley West

Dear Friends,

For the past seven years, it has been my distinct privilege to serve as your representative at Toronto City Hall.

I have lived in the neighbourhood for twenty-five years. Liz and I have raised our family here. Like you, I value the quality of life we have built here together and understand the importance of protecting it for the future.

Whether you are a property owner or a tenant in Ward 25, you have made an investment in our community. I seek your support for re-election in Ward 25 in order to continue my efforts to protect and preserve that investment by advocating for policies that support:

  • Neighbourhood stability
  • Efficient and reliable city services
  • A responsible approach to the City's Finances
  • A clean and sustainable environment
  • Real protection for tenants
  • Safety and security in our streets

During the twelve years I served as President of the York Mills Residents Association, I gained a clear understanding of the pressures and threats facing our neighbourhoods. As your City Councillor, I have worked hard to ensure that all residents are given a strong and influential voice and a real opportunity to participate in local decision making.

On Council, I've worked with ratepayers groups and my Council colleagues to achieve improvements to the City's Official Plan that provide additional protections for our neighbourhoods. Similarly, we've been able to achieve improvements to the new harmonized Zoning By-law. In the next term, I will be seeking greater local control of Committee of Adjustment appeals, through a new Local Appeal Board.

I continue to believe that we must make appropriate investments in infrastructure and find ways to fund it responsibly. At the same time we must be vigilant in examining the resiliency of our services - such as water, sewer, garbage, TTC, fire, police, parks and recreation programs - to ensure they meet your needs in a cost-effective manner.

I hope you will take this opportunity to review my record and examine some of the work I have done on your behalf. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 416-449-3585.

I ask for your support on Election Day, Monday, October 25, 2010.

"Beginning in 2002, residents in Lawrence Park were confronted by with the first proposal of its kind for a high-rise condo development in our area. Cliff Jenkins was absolutely instrumental in coming to the aid of our community and helping us defend our neighbourhood against the unreasonable ambitions of the condominium developer. As well, and perhaps even more importantly, Cliff worked to have City Council reject the developer-friendly proposals of City Planning staff who did not appreciate how harmful the introduction of high-rise condominiums in the midst of our community would be. Cliff has my very enthusiastic endorsement for his re-election. I can't imagine anyone doing a better job."
    — Sean Aylward,
        Bayview-Blythwood Ratepayers' Association

"We have an appreciation of Toronto's history - and want it to have a great future. As long time residents, we've observed how hard Cliff works for our community - first as President of the York Mills Ratepayers Association and now as Councillor. Cliff is not a life-long politician. He's modest and doesn't posture for glory - he simply wants to put business experience, fairness and good sense to work for the betterment of the people of Ward 25 and Toronto."
    — Yarmila & Mike Filey, York Mills

"Cliff Jenkins has been a strong voice for Don Mills at City Hall. He has worked diligently to make the voice of our community heard and has achieved resolution of a number of long standing issues. His many years of community experience makes him an excellent Councillor. We can be confident of strong community representation with Cliff as our Councillor. Let us continue to be heard. Cliff Jenkins continues to be the right choice for Ward 25."
    — Terry West, Don Mills, long-time resident

"The Executive Committee of the York Mills Gardens Community Association endorses Cliff Jenkins for re-election to Toronto City Council. Of the candidates in Ward 25, Cliff Jenkins stands out as the right one with the necessary background, depth of experience, dedication and values to do the job best. He has been an excellent representative throughout his seven years as City Councillor and previously during his long and active volunteer service as a residents' association leader in the York Mills area. He has proved to be a man of principled integrity with a hard-working commitment to protecting the best interests of our community, responding to residents' concerns and actively communicating with us regarding City Council business and issues. Our neighbourhood and the city need Cliff Jenkins to continue working on our behalf for the next term of office."
