York Mills Bridge Reconstruction Project Nears Completion

  • Southbound DVP closed Saturday, northbound DVP closed early Saturday morning

The southbound Don Valley Parkway will be closed from Highway 401 to Lawrence Avenue on Saturday, December 4 from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The northbound Don Valley Parkway will be closed from Lawrence Avenue to Highway 401 on Saturday, December 4 from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

In addition, the northbound left lane will be closed from 6 a.m. until noon on Saturday, December 4, 2004.

Specific work taking place includes:

  • re-opening of the Southbound DVP off-ramp to York Mills

  • installation of expressway lighting

  • removal of temporary barrier wall (at York Mills location)

  • lane re-alignment and pavement marking adjustments

"In previous years, we have not had expressway closures like this so late in the construction season. Construction delays and major special events scheduled in November, such as the Royal Winter Fair and the Santa Claus Parade, have put us in a position where we have no choice but to schedule a closure at this time," said Les Kelman, Acting General Manager, Transportation Services. "In addition, the existing work zone setup at the York Mills bridge cannot safely remain in place throughout the winter season because adequate snow storage is not available for winter maintenance activities.

"We would like to extend our thanks to the public for their patience and co-operation during this closure. Please accept our apologies in advance for any inconvenience this may cause, especially at this time of year," added Kelman.

Motorists on Highway 401 can access the southbound Don Valley Parkway from Lawrence Avenue by exiting at either Leslie Street or Victoria Park Avenue as an alternative route. Motorists going southbound on Highway 404 should exit at Finch Avenue or Sheppard Avenue and use Don Mills Road as an alternate route to Lawrence Avenue. The public is encouraged to consider using public transit as a convenient alternative.

Two additional overnight closures of the northbound Don Valley Parkway between Lawrence Avenue and Highway 401 are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday night, December 8 and 9. These closures are required in order to install three overhead highway sign structures.

For further information about these closures check with Transportation Services' Road Info line at 416-599-9090 or visit the City's Web site at www.toronto.ca/transportation.
