Toronto is a great place to live, work and enjoy
life. As your elected representative on City Council,
I'm committed to the preservation and enhancement of our
wonderful communities.
As well, I want to improve the City’s services and
maintain our infrastructure in a cost effective way for
our taxpayers. With your help, we'll make Toronto even
better.
As we move into the second decade of the twenty-first
century, there are vital goals and objectives that will
be critical to Toronto’s continued success and the
well-being of the people of Toronto.
Respect
our taxpayers...
by containing property tax increases within the annual
rate of inflation, every year – and by responsible
budgetary policies restraining debt growth and by proper
management of the City’s reserve funds and long-term
liabilities.
Safeguard
our neighbourhoods...
from destabilizing/inappropriate development. We need
to ensure that the Official Plan and Zoning by-laws, as
well as City planning practices, serve and protect the
people who live in Toronto.
Protect
Public Health...
by supporting smoke-free public places, by supporting
responsible pandemic planning, by supporting responsible
legislation and inspection for restaurants.
Regain
respect of citizens for the integrity of elected
representatives...
through a significant integrity package -- including
prohibition of campaign donations to municipal election
candidates by companies and unions; ending the retention
of candidates’ campaign surpluses for use in the
following election; limiting total donations from any
individual donor to $750; by closing election spending
loopholes related to fundraising. Councillor Cliff
Jenkins supports Councillor Michael Walker's
Call for Reform of Election Financing.
Make
a positive contribution to the environment...
by aiming for the reduction of greenhouse gases
generated by burning fossil fuels in order to produce
residential and commercial electricity; by co-operating
with other levels of government in order to provide
incentives to builders and homeowners to include solar
and wind power collection devices in new and refitted
development.
Gain
typical commercial efficiencies and improve service to
citizens...
by enhancing the City’s new 3-1-1 Contact Centre to
improve service levels on citizen requests and to
achieve divisional operating efficiencies; by
investigating alternative service delivery models and
making changes where warranted; by finding better ways
to deal with our waste; by implementing value-for-money
review of programs.
Regain
stability in the property tax system...
by encouraging the provincial government to increase
transparency and improve predictability in the volatile
and somewhat obscure market-value-based assessment
system.
Revitalize
the TTC...
by providing incentives to people to use public transit;
by seeking operating and scheduling efficiencies; by
finding better ways to fund new TTC infrastructure,
including a better Development Charges by-law.
Increase
citizens' pride in our city...
by beautifying and improving the appearance of public
places in Toronto through improved litter collection and
innovative programs from facilities like the Toronto
Botanical Gardens.
